How to get to Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury is located in the county of Shropshire is on the border of north Wales and is bordered by Cheshire, Staffordshire, Herefordshire & Worcestershire. Shropshire is approximately 3 hours by car from London, an hour from Manchester, and about 45 minutes from Birmingham.

By Car

Shrewsbury connects to the M6 and motorway network via the M54. The A49, A5, A53, A458 all make Shrewsbury easily accessible.

Limited free parking is available to Abbey visitors. For longer stays, there is a (charged) Local Authority carpark across the street.

By Rail

By Air

The nearest airports to Shrewsbury are in Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester. All are approximately one hour away. Train connections are available from Birmingham and Manchester airports.

By Bus and Coach

By Water

Although Shrewsbury is inland, the town is well serviced by Britain’s extensive canals and waterways. Further information about these canals is available from British Waterways. Shrewsbury is looped by the famous river Severn, making a river trip the perfect way to experience the town.

Shrewsbury Park and Ride

The Park and Ride comes every 10-15 minutes Monday – Saturday from ‘Start of Day’ until 6:00 pm. The Park and Ride route with the nearest stop to the Abbey is Meole Brace Park and Ride, stop ‘Old Potts Way’. For Harlescott Livestock Market and Oxon Park and Ride, the closest stop is Dogpole.
